Passover – Never Forget!!

For I will pass through the land of Egypt on that night, and will strike all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the Lord.  Now the blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you; and the plague shall not be on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt. So this day shall be to you a memorial; and you shall keep it as a feast to the Lord throughout your generations. You shall keep it as a feast by an everlasting ordinance.

Exodus 12:12-14 NKJV

As Christians we observe many holy days. We celebrate The Birth of our Lord Jesus Christ as well as Passion week when He was betrayed and given over to be tried and crucified. We celebrate the last supper in the form of Communion most Sundays. Some denominations celebrate many other events or persons as they affirm their faith. Obviously we see other Faiths, such as the Jewish brethren, remember important events in history of their relationship with God.

Those of the jewish faith celebrate Passover this week. They remember that God called them out of bondage from Egypt. By the signs of many miracles God used Moses to stand against the pharaoh and speak God’s word. The last sign of Gods’ power was a reversal of a curse that the pharaoh spoke against the children of Israel. Death of the first born!

God prepared His children against this day and instructed them to slaughter a lamb and place the blood of the lamb on the doorposts of their homes. “and when I see the blood, I will pass over you:”

All those years ago God Almighty poured out His love on His people by saving them from the Angel of Death. He made it possible for them to be saved from what must have been a huge devastating event.

Many years later God made a way of saving His children again.

He sent His only Son, Jesus Christ, to be the sacrificial Lamb Whose blood will wash away the sins of many and save them from eternal damnation.

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16 NKJV

We who believe in Him have eternal life. Eternal Life, not here in this sinful decaying world, but in the world to come. So, as these difficult times of Covid-19 play out before us. As the days of Spring bring a rebirth of flowers and trees and gardens. Find courage and Peace because you are not called to death and darkness but to Life and everlasting light with Him.

This post was written in a bit of a hurray before I ran off to work but I think we as Christians should always remember that we have not replaced The Children of Israel in Gods eye but rather we have been grafted into the tree of that God planted many many years before us – His chosen ones – Israel.

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem:
“May they prosper who love you.

Ps. 122:6 NKJV

New Year New Day New Start

It’s a New Year

It’s a New Day

It can be a New Start

It can be a New Life

Nearly two weeks into 2020 and maybe you made a resolution to exercise, or diet, or save money, or to do, or not do, any number of things like many people do each time the  calendar resets. We have the best intentions as we look forward to the year ahead thinner, richer, or in a new job, home, car, etc.. Why not consider a new life at this time of new starts?

There was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. This man came to Jesus by night and said to Him, “Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher come from God; for no one can do these signs that You do unless God is with him.”Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.”Nicodemus said to Him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother’s womb and be born?”                                             John 3:1-4 NKJV

Start a new year with a new life – be born again!!

Nicodemus was a scholar, a Pharisess, fluent in the word of God and able to quote the Book of Moses and The Law (the first five books of the Old Testament) by heart. He was impressed with Jesus and had questions for Him but as we see in the scriptures he came to Jesus by night.  Under the cover of darkness, hoping no-one would see, he came to ask the teacher questions. Jesus knew what Nicodemus was searching for before the question was asked. Jesus’s answer was not what Nicodemus expected.

Jesus explains that our birth from our mother is being born of the flesh but that the second birth which He is speaking of is Spirit. We are spirit beings in fleshly bodies and souls and it’s our spirits that must be reborn (regenerated) of God’s Spirit.

But maybe, like Nicodemus, you can’t understand how to reenter your mothers womb and be born a second time. Or perhaps you have been raised in the church and feel these words don’t apply to you. Maybe you’re secure in your relationship with Jesus and you have felt the joy of being reborn into His family. Whatever condition you may be in today as you read these words know that there is a better way, a new way, to live this new year. Become a child of God!

But wait! Isn’t everyone a child of God?

Unfortunately, the answer to that question is a resounding NO! It is true that Jesus is the creator of all things (that includes you!). But He set you free into this life so that you can exercise your free will and return to Him. Accepting Jesus and receiving Him as your Lord and Savior is how you become a child of God.

He (Jesus) came to His own (the children of Israel), and His own did not receive Him. But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.                              John 1:11-13NKJV

In the first chapter of John’s Gospel we see the power and glory of Jesus. In the beginning was The Word! John opens our eyes to the divinity of Jesus. How Jesus is The Word and how Jesus was with God and Is God. How Jesus made everything and how there is nothing that is made that was not made by Him. How Jesus is The Light of the world and that darkness does not comprehend the Light. John goes on to say that he was able to witness Jesus in the flesh.

In the glorious revealing of the very character of Jesus John also tells us God’s plan concerning all of us. God sent Jesus to earth to live among us as one of us and to die for us all. The sacrificial Lamb of God which under the law in olden times was slain to cover the sins of the worshippers in Israel. Only now, this Lamb, would be slain once and for all. His shed blood would not cover up the sins of the worshippers in Israel but rather, wash away the sins, no matter how great or horrific, of all mankind forever. Heb. 10

For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.   John3:16 NKJV

It’s a New Year – It’s a New Day – It can be a New Start – It can be a New Life

Give your heart to Jesus. Ask for His forgiveness. Let Him cleanse you of your sins. If you think you have no sins ask Him to show you your sins because He tells us that all (Yes all – that means you) have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (seeRomans 3:23!). Then you can become a child of God and inherit everlasting life.

RECYCLE YOURSELF – RETURN TO JESUS

If you are secure in your relationship with Jesus and know Him as your Lord and Savior then share the good news of Jesus with someone today.  Show them how they can become a child of God.

What Is God’s Will For Me?

What is God’s will for me?

A question that many believers ask at some time. Along with;

Why am I here? What is my calling? What should I do with my life?

Life is full of so many choices. Crossroads appear at ever turn. Schools, activities, friends, choices, choices, choices. What if we make the wrong choice? Go to the wrong school? Pick the wrong career? Move to the wrong town? Marry the wrong person? Oh My!!!!! I can be overwhelming! But does following God’s will really need to be so difficult? Do the choices really matter?

Break it down

Looking into The Word of God we see that God tells us what He desires for and from us.

John 3:16  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. What this tells us that God loves us and sent His Son (Jesus) to us so that by believing in Him we can have everlasting life.  This means it is God’s will that we believe in Jesus and have everlasting life.

Likewise, 1 Timothy chapter Two, tells us that living “a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty. For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior

And

“Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth”

So I believe it can be said that God’s will for everyone is to be saved and live a quiet and peaceful life.

Ok, but what about all the choices that we face? What is God’s will for those decisions? Does he care about those choices we make and if so can we make wrong choices? I would say both yes and no in that if salvation is God’s will for everyone, then as long as these other choices do not distract or conflict with that prime directive then His Grace is sufficient.

Some believe that there is one perfect almost predestined plan that God has for our lives and that we should seek that out earnestly. Prayerfully seeking God’s direction before making any important decision is always a good thing to do but being anxious about a decision or regretful about a past decision because one believes they are outside the will of God is defeating.  Certainly, God wishes us to do well, be happy, live long and use our gifts to glorify Him.

Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth  3 John:1-2

God saw that it was not good for man (Adam) to be alone. God made Eve as a companion for Adam and it is safe to say that He wishes that single people find someone to be a companion to. He cares about our happiness but cautions about being unequally yoked (paired with someone that is not of the same faith). Some say that this scripture verse relates to marriage and business/career relations but we are in the world even though we are not of the world and as such we should shine a light especially on unbelieving co-workers and the world in general.

Delight thyself also in the Lord: and he shall give thee the desires of your heart. Ps. 37:4

Prosperity, health and happiness and our eternal salvation of our souls are a concern to God and the reason He sent Jesus to make a way for us all but that’s not all.

He wants us to tell others the good news! The Gospel of Jesus is The Good News!! Death has been defeated and the grave is not the end. We will all pass from this life to the next but our final destination is not a fateful unknown. We can choose our destination and as previously pointed out – John 3:16  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. What this tells us that God loves us and sent His Son (Jesus) to us so that by believing in Him we can have everlasting life.  This means it is God’s will that we believe in Jesus and have everlasting life.

But if we must believe in order to have everlasting life then how can anyone believe that does not hear? This is why Jesus commands us to go, and share the Gospel. Matthew 28:19

In summation

God’s will for your life doesn’t concern itself with where you live, what car you drive, what school you attended, what career you follow or any of the temporary superficial things we as a society worry and tweet about.

God’s will for your life (everyone’s life) is that you believe in Jesus and receive everlasting life as a result of that belief. Additionally, having received this gift of God, share the Love of God and the Good news of Jesus Christ to a world full of people who will live an eternity in agony if they don’t.

If you surrender to His will all those other things will fall into place or be revealed as useless vanity and be forgotten.

Be blessed A&B

The Greatest of these is Love

Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

 Love never fails.

This verse of Scripture (1 Cor 13:4-8 NIV) is quoted at weddings probably more than any other. It’s been set to music, printed on posters, engraved on gifts. Yet, what many people don’t realize is that the “Love” spoken of here is not the kind of love we think of when we are romantically in love with another.

When we say we love something or someone we are trying to describe the feelings we have about that thing or person. I love my new car, my puppy, my wife, my new job, that new movie, etc, etc, etc. What an injustice to lump a husband or wife into a group of things as meaningless as a car or a video – yet we do it! We do it because our society over-emphasizes the word. Its not like there aren’t other words we could use – I like my new car, I enjoy my new phone, that new movie was great to watch, etc. etc. etc. Why does this world over use the word “Love“?

Before we attempt to answer that, lets look at what the Word of God says about “Love“. Not forgetting the selfless kind of love outlined in 1 Cor 13 what else do we see in Scripture?

For God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son so that anyone who believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. John 3:16 LB

And the second is like, namely this, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these. Mark 12:31 KJV

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. John 15:13 KJV

Lets take a look at this last verse from John 15:13 for a minute. We all know that Jesus loved us all so much that He willingly took our place by dieing for our sins. Are we now to believe that He is instructing us to die for our friends as well?

YES! He is!!

But not the kind of death that He experienced. It’s more of that – “take up your cross and follow me” that Jesus also mentioned. It’s a “dieing-to-self” and considering the other person before yourself kinda thing.  Love can be a noun – expressing a feeling, desire or passion or Love can be a verb – an action word.

It is the noun that gets misused so often today. I love this and we love that and so on. But real love – the action word – is rarely seen in this society where we fall, as if by accident, into love and fall, as if involuntarily, out of love. But, the truth is, Love is a choice and not a feeling.  It’s a conscience decision to care for and support and cherish another person even if you sometimes don’t “feel” like doing so. Certainly, feelings play a role in people first getting to know each other. An attraction or shared interests or even a passion brings people together. This is the “Eros” or physical kind of love that is a part of our human nature. But, Jesus wants us to transcend this and move into the “Agape” or brotherly/selfless love that will sustain us in our relationships.

So, for real love to last, somebodies gotta die!

Hands in form of heart

Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for_____________!

You fill in the blank. Maybe you gotta die for your husband, maybe for your wife, maybe for your child or maybe even your parents. What might this death look like? Glad you asked! Maybe you have to swallow your pride at work rather than telling the Boss off and loosing your job which would harm your whole family. Maybe, you have to not insist on proving your point to your spouse so as avoid a stupid fight over nothing. Maybe it’s as simple as trusting your child with your car even though your afraid they might get it scratched and thereby build them up.

Prioritizing the needs of another is the action which spells love!

The “Die-to-self” kinda Love that Jesus exemplified

There are three things that remain—faith, hope, and love—

and the greatest of these is love. 1 Cor 13:13 LB

Why does this world over use the word “Love“? Who knows? Who cares?

We are not of this World and we can show that in the way we truly love others. 1John 4

Start at the very beginning….

A Very Good Place to Start

As a contractor with 30 years of experience I have learned a lot about my trade and others around me. Its safe to say that I have seen my share of mistakes made during those early years. But I give my thanks to a good teacher. One, who may not have always been patient but always thorough in his explanations of how to do something and why.

In my years I have had the opportunity to train helpers to work beside me and always observed one thing. Teaching is the best way to keep things fresh in my own mind. Somewhere in the relating of the process there is a reliving that revives me. I am taken back to where I was when I learned it and can relate the truth of the process to another with passion.

It is this reason that I want my first post of the year to be about “contending for the faith” that was first inside of us all at conversion. Jude tells us that he wanted to write about the shared salvation of the saints but was moved to respond to false teachers and ungodly people.

But lets review the Basics that we all do know –

Very simply put – Christ came to save sinners of which we are all (1 Timothy 1:15 and Romans 3:23). If we repent and trust in Jesus we will be saved (Romans 10:9-13)

I guess the only question now is – Have you been saved? If not. Why Not?

All you have to do is believe you are a sinner, that Christ died for your sins, and ask His forgiveness. He knows you and loves you. What matters to Him is the attitude of your heart and your honesty. Although there’s no special way to ask to be saved we suggest praying the following prayer to accept Christ as your Savior:

“Dear Lord Jesus,

I know I am a sinner, and I ask for your forgiveness. I believe you died for my sins and rose from the dead.  I trust and follow you as my Lord and Savior. Guide my life and help me to do your will.

In Jesus name, amen.”

If you prayed this prayer congratulations, you are a Child of God now and your sins have been forgiven, never to be remembered. We encourage you , if you do not already attend a church, to find one that believes in Bible study. One that teaches the whole Word of God and proclaims the Good News that Salvation is available to all. We encourage you to get a Bible and begin reading it. If you don’t know where to start we suggest you read the Gospel of John first but you can find many Bible study reading lists online also. Consider Bible Gateway or some of the other links from our home page.

Whatever you do read the Bible daily and pray to our Lord for guidance because He is not dead but alive and ready to talk with you. Congratulations as you start a new life in this new year! Be blessed. Al and Betty

What Child is this?

What Child is this? What Child indeed. A child, born into humble circumstances yet the Creator of all. Born a fragile baby destined to conquer the grave. One Child born to die that many may live.

Tonight, as many people celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ I am reminded of so many Christmas Eves and Christmas Days gone by, each one different yet one thing remains constant – Jesus Christ was born to die that we might live. What Love. What sacrifice. What a Divine plan to save a world lost.

Simply put, we celebrate the birth of a Baby with all the fanfare He deserves. Let remember that it is this Child Who will freely give His life so that we do not have to die.

FOR GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD THAT HE GAVE HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON THAT WHOSOEVER BELIEVES IN HIM SHALL NOT PERISH BUT HAVE EVERLASTING LIFE – John 3:16

What Child is this? He is the giver of the best Christmas present anyone could ever receive – Eternal Life

     Merry Christmas to all!

But most of all – IT’S FREE!

The Deal is this – Rest for the weary, Love for the Lonely and Hope for the Broken-hearted. Jesus said for all who are tired and carrying a heavy burden to come to Him and He will give them rest.1 He also tells us that ALL of us have sinned – that is we have fallen short of the mark. 2 But this is why He came to us and died for us to pay the price for us. Not to condemn us but to save us instead.“This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life. God didn’t go to all the trouble of sending his Son merely to point an accusing finger, telling the world how bad it was. He came to help, to put the world right again. Anyone who trusts in him is acquitted; anyone who refuses to trust him has long since been under the death sentence without knowing it. And why? Because of that person’s failure to believe in the one-of-a-kind Son of God when introduced to him. John 3:16-18 The Message

Take a moment today, apart from your holiday planning or shopping or whatever it is you are doing and consider your heart. Jesus said that He will take away your old heart and give you a new heart – Freely! He said He stands at the door of your heart and is knocking – will you let Him in? He said that all who come to Him He will not refuse. Call out to Him now and He will meet you right where you are. That’s a Promise from God to YOU!

Gift of God Times Sq

For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.Eph. 2:8-9 NKJV

Out of sheer generosity he put us in right standing with himself. A pure gift. He got us out of the mess we’re in and restored us to where he always wanted us to be. And he did it by means of Jesus Christ.God sacrificed Jesus on the altar of the world to clear that world of sin. Having faith in him sets us in the clear. Romans 3:24-25 The Message
